- Client An energy multinational
- Project “Punto Nave” - Monitoring and tracking service for operating vessels
- Key Solution no
- Category Energy, Utilities and TLC, Italy
OBJECTIVES
The project objective is near-real time tracking of ships operating for the client
DEVELOPMENT
The GeneGIS GI companies have collaborated with this multinational for many years, and this was the basis for the development of the project. The preliminary phase saw GeneGIS bid successfully for the contract.
CHARACTERISTICS
The service is based on data collected and transmitted via the SAT C terminals of the INMARSAT satellite network and through terrestrial/satellite Automatic Identification System technology (AIS). Via a web service, the data is integrated with the GIS 3Ter Advanced platform to assist management of any emergencies that occur.
The INMARSAT system transmits data through two services: Data Reporting and Polling. Data Reporting transfers information on geographical position, direction, speed, etc. from the ship to the terrestrial network. Polling enables specific commands known as polls to be sent to the SAT C terminals, to activate remote actions, such as the transmission of data reports.
The AIS system enables automatic tracking, identification and localisation of ships, thanks to an on-board transponder. Data comes from two different sources: Terrestrial and satellite AIS. Used together, they can provide global information on the movements of any ship near the coast or in the open sea, with near-real time frequency.
CHARACTERISTICS
The “Punto Nave” system enables highly effective planning, management and checking policies to be put in place.
